Marcelle Flowers, President and CEO of Armstrong Plumbing Inc. in Sacramento, is a woman of strong faith and character, whose passion for life is reflected in her business ethics. Marcelle was born in Roseburg, Oregon, then moved to Southern California where she spent most of her adolescence. She began her career as a wedding consultant and helped to facilitate over 1,000 weddings from 1981-1989 while simultaneously working for a plastic surgeon as a surgery technician.
In 1989, Marcelle relocated to the Sacramento area to be closer to family and continue her career in the medical field. With multiple ambitions and an entrepreneurial spirit, she began private piano lessons for over 65 students, opened a small home-based therapy business, founded and operated a successful international T shirt and toy company called “Pogwash”, and managed a Carmichael based cardiology clinic. She volunteered her time to serve as Den Leader of Pack 635; Committee Chair to Boy Scouts of America, Troop 144 of Fair Oaks, California, and assistant youth pastor of Capitol City Church International.
In 1995, Marcelle transitioned to Armstrong Plumbing, the family commercial plumbing business founded by her father in 1964. At the height of the recession in 2008, Armstrong Plumbing was suffering severely due to the lack of commercial projects and faced imminent closure. As many in the community were faced with the hardships of the recession, Marcelle took on the role of President and CEO of Armstrong Plumbing. She rolled up her sleeves and created a successful plan to transition the company from a struggling Commercial Plumbing endeavor to a full time Service and Repair Company.
With Marcelle at the helm and the recession still looming on all sides, the new Armstrong Plumbing Service and Repair Company grew 11% in their first year, followed by an average 21% annual growth over the next 6 years. In 2013 she became majority owner and rebranded the business, bringing renewed recognition throughout the community and continued growth to the company. The addition of two new divisions brought even more success with an outstanding 54% growth in 2015, pushing Armstrong Plumbing into the limelight. With the continued perseverance and well-planned guidance of Marcelle, 2011-2017 realized a top line growth of 315% with an average 5.7% industry standard net profit.
In other areas of her life, she has shown outstanding contribution and compassion. Marcelle won the prestigious NAWBO award for “Outstanding Women Leader of 2014.” In 2016, she was named Sacramento Business Journal’s “2016 Woman Who Means Business”, and she was just recently nominated as runner up of NAWBO’s coveted, “Business Owner of the Year” for the state of California. She has served as President on the board of LeTip of Sacramento, and in 2017 was awarded “Outstanding Achievement and Leadership” by LeTip International recognizing commitment and dedication to helping other Sacramento business owners grow and prosper. She has volunteered her time to many nonprofits in the community, helping to raise money for CASA, Eskaton Senior Living, Citrus Heights Police Activities League, Sacramento Dream Center, Boy Scouts of America, Sylvan Ranch Community Garden, her local Church and many others. She is considered a “friend to the friendless”, “mentor to the disenchanted” and “encourager to the 55 employees’ that she calls “family””!
Marcelle is the proud wife of Terry Flowers for 28 years, mother of two amazing boys, Staff Sergeant Kyle Chattin and Eagle Scout Dillon Flowers. She is a faith filled woman who when not working in her garden, enjoys good music, great wine and people of all backgrounds. She currently resides in Citrus Heights, along with her husband and two Pomeranians.
